Ratings and reviews of the best driving roads in the San Francisco Bay Area

Is there any way to sort the drives based on various ratings?
@Aamir
I added a “Top 5” list to the sidebar and a few pages with roads sorted by the ratings. This is based on the overall rating, not a specific category (aka. length, speed, etc.). I’m still working to see if I can add new pages with sorting based on each rating category. I’m also working on trying to have user specific lists (like your Top 10 highest rated roads).
Sweet!
I’m curious why you didn’t include any stretches of Highway 1?
@ScratchMaster Z
I’ve added several pages for the Highway 1. I didn’t think it was appropriate to have it listed as one single review, since driving through San Francisco is very different from driving down to Big Sur.
Just an FYI: When I’m on my iphone and I pull up the South Bay region listing, then try to expand one particular map with my fingers (instead of clicking on “see larger map”, which is what I do now), Safari crashes.
King’s Mountain road to Tunitas Creek road. It’s up off Skyline and goes by Huddart park. Really fun. The first time I drove it I was going to Huddart park and I threw my back out in a turn in my E30, and I’m 19 and by no means have a bad back.
I’ve added Kings Mountain Rd. to the site. Thank you for the suggestion! It would be great if you could rate the road and add a comment describing the road.
Rte 25 by Pinnacles National Monument is supposed to be amazing. If you add it, I will drive it and review it.
Guadeloupe Canyon Road through San Bruno Mountain is short (3.7 miles), but it might be worthy of this list.
I see two “Bear Creek Roads”. I wonder if they should be distinguished somehow.
@ScratchMaster Z
One is in the East Bay and the other the South Bay. Just like Skyline… there are two of them (South vs East).
@Aamir (aka ScratchMaster Z)
I have heard great things about this road, but have never been able to get out to drive it. If you send me a write-up I’ll add post it up.
I’ll add it. In general, nearly all roads are worth of the list… the only roads I hesitate to add are major freeways (101, 880, 580, 680, etc.) and narrow one-lane roads that I’ve never driven (just because I hate to send someone on a road without proper warnings).
Theres one on sierra Rd and changes to felter Rd in milpitas. It goes up to a nice view of the milpitas at night(when you go up sierra Rd). so i guess its a two for one deal. the road is a 2 lane, but at the top it changes to a one lane then a 2 lane again. And at the top there are some blind corners also. traffic isn’t a problem after 8 but there is still a change of a car or two every once in a while.
One of my favorite stretch is McKean Rd. to Uvas Rd., then west following Hecker Pass to Watsonville. Not too much elevation change, traffic is low and most corners can be taken at speed.
For some reason the map is not working. Do you know what is going wrong? I’m using OSX 10.8 on Google Chrome.
Thank you for the heads-up. I’ve check the developer’s site and their map is not working either. My best guess is that something has changed with the way information is gathered from Google. Hopefully I can get an update from the code developer soon!
The maps on the individual road pages are still working. Until the main map is back up and running, it’s probably easiest to use the navigation bar at the top of the page (East Bay, North Bay, etc.) and then click on the individual road pages. Not the best solution, but it’s something for the time being.
I finally make it out that way and drove Highway 25… well worth the trip! The road condition was great, lots of sweeping curves, fun elevation changes, and very little traffic.
