I’m clearly not the only one to find this road fun. It’s rated number 2 on this website so far, and I’ve seen it mentioned many times on other websites. There were several other sports cars on the road, including a Lamborghini which put my Porsche to shame, and an Audi which almost crashed in to me.
Traffic was variable, but there were plenty of areas to pull over and wait for traffic to clear. I found it interesting that there was a speed limit sign on every stretch of road which was prime for flooring it. I’ve always wondered what they mean by “checked by radar”. Apparently, the radar wasn’t working today.
My only gripe is that the southern end of the road towards Bear Creek Road is one lane wide. I don’t understand how that can possibly be safe on a twisty road.
On the other hand, once you get to Bear Creek Road, hang a right and hold on for the ride of your life!

Be careful on this road when it comes to exceeding the posted speed limit. It is such a popular road for cars/bikes that it is heavily patrolled, especially on weekends. Fortunately the posted speed limit is reasonable for most sections.
I generally enter/exit Skyline from the South at Highway 9. There are some other roads in the Santa Cruz hills that are very twisty, but as you found with Big Basin Highway, several of them are narrow one-lane roads.
